As one of the world’s most respected medical publishers, BMJ Group products aim to improve the quality of healthcare by supporting doctors and patients by ensuring that healthcare is based on the best available evidence. This senior role involves developing the Evidence Services aspect of the BMJ Evidence Centre portfolio.
We’ll expect you to lead from the front and ensure that our content, tools and services are clinically focussed, rigorous and meet clinician and end user requirements. Your clinical and evidence based expertise will be required in undertaking commissioned systematic reviews; evidence synthesis to inform commissioning and service redesign; evidence-based quality measures; content integration/decision support; and evidence surveillance.
Deputising for the Clinical Director of the BMJ Evidence Centre as necessary, you will lead a team of clinicians and work closely with information specialists, digital production, editorial and business development teams responsible for existing and new business. The role will involve developing in-depth knowledge of all Evidence Centre products and the processes which create them to impact high-level meetings and influence the timely, on-budget delivery of projects.
Holding a medical degree, ideally holding postgraduate qualifications and currently active in clinical practice you will have considerable experience in evidence-based medicine in an academic, policy or publishing environment and display a broad understanding of the need for evidence across healthcare. You should be able to critically appraise published evidence, while your strong editorial skills will show an ability to deliver high-quality work to deadline. Strong presentation and negotiation skills plus a pragmatic and innovative approach will be important, as will the strategic thinking to identify opportunities and create services and solutions that meet customer needs. We will encourage you to maintain a part time clinical commitment to ensure that our services remain relevant and incisive.
