This is a key Divisional financial and operational planning appointment within the BMJ Group, publishers of the BMJ and other leading journals, and a wide range of digital products, services and software for healthcare. The Clinical Improvement Division comprises the Group’s worldwide businesses aimed at improving healthcare outcomes for patients. These include learning, quality improvement, clinical and economic evidence, decision support, clinical audit and performance measurement; together these are helping healthcare providers drive significant quality improvements and make economic savings. This is a fast expanding £20m business deserving the best operational controls, financial rigour and reporting. The Head of Business Management will provide all of these together with strategic planning, division-wide project direction and performance management support to the three business streams.
Reporting to the Divisional Director you will act as a discreet internal consultant working closely with the business heads as well as other Group and divisional leaders in finance, business development, technology and HR. To be effective in this role you’ll offer the following:
- First class communication, diplomacy and negotiation
- Strong business planning, analysis and financial modelling
- Excellent grasp of detail and presentation
- 7 or more years’ business or financial management, some in technology enabled businesses
- Sound judgement on complex issues – often under pressure.
With a division-wide remit you will lead initiatives that may be strategic, planning or project led, and provide a conduit to and from the divisional executive. You’ll have the confidence and credibility to share your ideas, gaining buy-in and ensuring that all stakeholders are fully engaged in the process of planning and delivering continued growth. Desirable though not essential, is experience in: working internationally, healthcare, media or consultancy services.
