Fixed Term, 12 months

Do you have experience in providing health economics support to UK healthcare decision makers?

The BMJ Group is looking for an individual to join an expanding team of clinical specialists and data analysts responsible for developing and delivering healthcare knowledge services to UK healthcare provider and commissioning organisations.  As one of the world’s most respected medical information providers, the BMJ Group aims to improve the quality of healthcare by ensuring that services are based on the best available evidence. Alongside our established evidence based clinical decision support and learning products we are looking to expand our capabilities to provide clinical and health economic intelligence for use in organisational decision making.

In this senior role you will lead on the development of a health economics portfolio to present to UK healthcare markets.  By engaging with leading healthcare decision makers you will understand and articulate health economic solutions that support the delivery of clinical and cost effective healthcare services.  You will report to the clinical lead responsible for Healthcare Knowledge Services and work closely with them and colleagues to undertake and evaluate commissioned health economic analyses and evidence reviews.  You will document methods for undertaking different types of analyses e.g. decision analysis and budget impact analysis and will liaise with our in-house Technology Assessment Group team of health economists for peer review.

In addition you will also be involved in presenting health economic information to both internal and external stakeholders e.g. to members of the Clinical Engagement team to support them to describe health economics capabilities to potential clients. You will also advise on the development of health economic products for the commissioning market.

You will have an undergraduate qualification in economics, medicine, pharmacy, or a life science with a strong mathematical component. You will also have a postgraduate qualification in Health Economics or a relevant analytical discipline (e.g., MSc in Medical Statistics).  A good working knowledge of all methods of economic evaluation as well as practical experience within a healthcare setting is required.  A detailed understanding of health economics within the NHS is highly desirable and will be regarded as a significant advantage.  Strong communication skills plus a pragmatic and innovative approach are important as well as strategic thinking to identify services and solutions that meet customer needs.  Being a team player is a must.

This will initially be a 12 month fixed term contract but with a view to a permanent role for the right candidate.
