Douglas B. Kamerow, M.D., MPH, Chief Scientist at RTI International and a former US Public Health Service Assistant Surgeon General, is a board-certified family physician and preventive medicine specialist. He is a Professor of Clinical Family Medicine at Georgetown University, Washington, DC, where he teaches medical students and family medicine residents. He is a columnist for the BMJ and a health policy commentator for All Things Considered on National Public Radio. Dr. Kamerow has broad research experience in primary care, quality improvement, clinical practice guidelines, preventive medicine, childhood obesity, and evidence-based medicine. While in the USPHS, he led the US Preventive Services Task Force, National Guidelines Clearinghouse, and the Put Prevention into Practice campaign. He has received many awards for his work and has written numerous articles and editorials for medical journals.
